DESIGNS by DONOVAN MAKEUP ARTIST
Sarah Donovan has always had a love for the art of makeup design. At the age of 19, she began volunteering as a makeup artist for a small theater company in Santa Rosa, California. By the end of the production, she knew that makeup was the only career she would ever want.
She went on to work as a consultant at Clinique Cosmetics while earning her Certificate in Theater Arts with an emphasis in Makeup. She decided to further her education by going to school at the famous Make-Up Designory in Los Angeles, California. There, she earned a certificate in the Master Program, including Beauty, Character, Special Effects and Hair Design.
After completing her education, she returned to theater, working for Summer Repertory Theater, San Jose Repertory Theater, American Musical Theater, and Shakespeare Santa Cruz. At the age of 28, she began to focus on makeup for film, print, and high fashion, by moving to Los Angeles. She worked for the American Film Institute, building her portfolio while still providing customer service as a freelance makeup artist with Clinique along with assisting other artists in an infomercial, runway work, and collaborating with photographers in print.
After a year in LA, Sarah and her husband moved back to Northern California, to start a family. There, she began working as a freelance makeup artist for Laura Mercier, while also working at a spa in downtown Santa Cruz, while also broadening her business specializing wedding makeup.
After many years of working in Santa Cruz, Sarah and her family made the big jump to move farther North, to Washington State. Now, she and her family, love living in Gig Harbor. She spends most of her time being a mom, but continues to love and feel passionate about being a makeup artist. She looks forward to enhancing beauty in everyone.

Sarah Donovan did an amazing job on my wedding day make-up. She took time on my trial to get the colors and shadowing just right so I looked very natural and also glowingly beautiful. She airbrushed my face and it felt like I was wearing no make-up the entire day which was very important to me because I normally don't wear a lot of make-up. She also did a great job on all my bridesmaids, they were very happy with the results and we all got a ton of compliments. Sarah was on time and very professional and worked well tag-teaming with hairstylists in order to get everyone ready by the time the photographer got there. I've experienced Sarah's work twice now, at my own wedding, and as a bridesmaid in my best friend's wedding. I could rave about many aspects, but the most important (I think) is that she makes your skin look flawless! Between the 2 weddings, I saw her work her magic on a fairly wide range of faces, from dry skin to blemished. Sarah also offers great suggestions throughout the process- such as keeping the look cohesive amongst the bridal party, or buying more natural looking brown fake eyelashes for your bridesmaid who doesn't normally wear makeup. I can't recommend her enough, she's the best!

I was referred to Sarah Donovan for my wedding makeup by a few friends in the Santa Cruz beauty circle. When I first met Sarah, I noticed she had a lovely calm energy and was a great listener- two very important qualities for a busy Bride. March 1st was our wedding party. Neither Brielle or myself are real make up wearers; we just do the basics. Even shopping around for a make up person seemed daunting to us. Thank goodness for our mutual friend Renate who provided your services to us as our wedding gift. She was spot on knowing that you would be perfect for us. You assessed what our needs were in such an unassuming way. Even when we couldn't really articulate exactly what we thought we wanted, you were very patient with us. In the end, even though both Brielle and I wanted a more "natural" and "understated" look, everyone of our guests on our special evening commented on how wonderful our make up was. We still looked like ourselves... but just even better!

All sessions take place within a 10-mile radius of 98329. Once outside the 10-mile radius of 98329, there is a $1 charge per mile.

A $100 deposit of the bride's total balance is required to reserve the wedding date. Due to the nature of the business, the wedding date will not be reserved until a deposit is paid and a signed contract is received.

There are no extra fees for cancellations.

Deposit and payments are non-refundable.

There is a $200 minimum day rate.

If there is a change in location during the makeup appointment, there is an additional $50 charge.

Tolls and parking fees must be reimbursed.

If the client requests an Assistant Makeup Artist for groups smaller than six, there will be a $100 hiring charge. For groups of six or more, Sarah Donovan may hire an Assistant Makeup Artist at no additional cost.

If scheduled makeup application on the wedding day, exceeds application time because of one client's delays, there will be an additional $50 charge.

Multiple makeup applications made on the same client, on the same day, are an additional $100 each.

Cash, Venmo, Zelle, PayPal, or Square (Credit card fee of $2 per transaction when using PayPal or Square).

A makeup trial consists of discussing your anticipated vision and overall theme of the wedding. Each session includes one bridal application and a (possible) photo for documentation. Lashes and airbrushing (face only) are included at no extra cost.

For flower girls and little ladies, 13 & under, a mini makeup application is $25 per child.
